Audio CD Description

Queen brought a whole new meaning to the phrase over the top. While rock & roll flamboyance stretched back at least as far as Little Richard, Freddie Mercury continued to camp it up, taking little seriously and smirking at the music's growing pretensions while partaking in them no small bit. Many of the band's singles hold up extremely well, such as "Killer Queen" and "You're My Best Friend". The quartet's canny sense of melody and sophisticated vocal harmonies--not to mention Mercury's raised eyebrow--have traveled well through the years.

Comments From Our Customers

Great companion to "Classic Queen"

First of all, I would like to preface this about all the complaints that Bohemian Rhapsody and Under Pressure are not here.... that's right, it's because they're on "Classic Queen", which also was released in 1992 (and actually sold more initially). If you buy the two cd's together, you'll GET IT.Both collections are great and you need both to have the complete Queen picture.

No Princes of the Universe??

For all the people complaining that there is no Bohemian Rhapsody here that is because it is on the companion album, Classic Queen. Which has way more of my favorites on it. This album may have Queen's greatest hits, but come on, how can you include "Body Language" over "Princes of the Universe". I'm not too happy with the song selection. What were they thinking??

Problems with this compilation

Needless to say, the music on this CD is all terrific. Queen were and remain one of the most glorious, most fantastic rock bands in history. What I'd like to refer to here is the compilation itself. Queen's hits were originally compiled on three albums: Greatest Hits Vol. 1 was released in 1981 and contained songs recorded between 1973 and 1980; Greatest Hits Vol. 2 was released in 1991 and contained songs recorded between 1981 and 1991; and finally, Greatest Hits Vol. 3 contained oddities, rarities, songs that were somehow omitted from the first compilations, solo recordings and Queen songs recorded by others - a mess, altogether. Those three can now be obtained together as 'The Platinum Collection'.
