| Audio CD Description Not since the days of the Clash and the MC5 has rock seen such political force as in the uncompromising debut from this L.A. quartet. Expanding the hip-hop/metal style of bands such as the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rage tap the spirits of vintage Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin, coupled with hardcore punk intensity and Public Enemy-style grooves. "Bombtrack" opens the LP with a shot of adrenaline and singer Zack de la Rocha's infuriated chorus of "Burn, burn, yes, you're gonna burn!" The intensity doesn't let up an inch on the militant "Killing in the Name" (with the inspiring chant, "Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me!"), the ultrafunky "Bullet in the Head," and the engrossing "Fistful of Steel." Tom Morello combines time-honored metal guitar riffs with sounds that suggest a hip-hop scratcher over a rhythm section that simply takes no prisoners. Intelligent and aggressive, this is unimpeachably one of the best hard-rock records ever made. |

Best of the 90s Rage Against the Machine's incredible debut stands head and sholders above all other metal albums of the 90s as far as originallity goes. They fuse rap and rock/metal/hardcore perfectly with Zack de la Rocha's intense lyrical delivery, Tom Morello's totally unique way of playing the guitar (producing a variety of crazy sounds that seem to have no place coming from a guitar), and a tight rythmn section that never lets up. When put together these four tallented artists deliver a kick to the face in the form of the most militant sound ever produced in a studio making them the undisputed leaders of the modern "aggro" genre. An interesting fact about this music is that it is totally sexless, Zach and company stay true to thier political agenda/assault from the opening riff on "Bombtrack" to the final electrifying screams of "Freedom." This thunderous album is right up there with Korn's debut two years later as one of the angeriest albums ever produced. Essential listening.
Hasn't aged a day! This is my favourite album of all time. It deserves every bit of praise it gets. Every song is a highlight except for "Settle for Nothing." The best album of the '90s by the best band of the '90s.
One of the best debuts ever limp bizkut has nothing on these guys. Of course, it dosen't take a genious to figure that out, because Rage AGainst the machine annihlates fred durst and his other clowns, in virtually every way imaginable. But no other rap metal band can touch RATM, they are simply pissed off people. Ther style is one of the best, not since The Clash a band could rework influences of different playing and not make it sound un natural. This is their best, everyboyd does their best, this is their the best.
