Best guitar work on solo album....
This was a little older than Ragpicker, Shangri-La, and Sailing to Philadelphia. Mark has a bit more ...oomph on this album I think. Even though all of his albums are respectfully different, and I love them all, this one is second only behind Sailing to Philadelphia in my mind. Knopfler's guitar playing is toned down in his other solo albums...not so in this case. It pops out at you unlike Shangri-La. The songs are generally up-beat, and Knopfler is just having a good time. As always, fantastic sound quality. Highly recommended.
A Stellar Effort
Golden Heart, in my opinion, is Mark Knopfler at his finest. All of his solo albums are well worth owning, but this one ranks in the top ten of my all time favorite recordings. Knopfler has the unique ability to identify with the characters in his songs in an honest, heartfelt way without being overly semtimental. The range of style is impressive and Knopfler's guitar playing is at it's best. He can wring more feeling out of one note than most players can do with an entire scale. The album is a pleasing mix of electric and acoustic tunes. After listening to this well-balanced set two or three times, it will be hard to choose a favorite song. They are all worthy candidates!
Imelda - the best rock N' roll song on the planet
This album is great for the hard rockin' riff song Imelda which
