Good but dated fun
Got this for my wife. She wanted it because her tape of it had worn out. The fondness for her was her memories of her family listening to a record of 'To Russell,....' together. I listened to it and found it to be hilarious. My only criticism is that they need a brief glossary guide to some of the language, for example bread another name for money in the dialogue. Otherwise it was fun to listen to with my wife.
EVERY ONE OF THE CUTS IS A CLASSIC
I SAW COSBY DO A VERSION ON A TV SHOW ONCE..AND A RADIO STATION WOULD PLAY CUTS OF THIS..I HAVE OWNED THIS ON ALBUM, 8 TRACK, CASSETE, AND CD..COSBY AT HIS BEST...ALONG WITH 200 MPH..ALL OTHERS ARE GREAT..BUY THE BEST OF FOR THE NOAH STORY, AND I WANT TO SEE "FOR ADULTS ONLY" RELEASED..DON'T BE FOOLED BY THE TITTLE, THIS IS BILL COSBY SO YOU CAN PLAY THAT WITH CHILDREN IN THE ROOM..
A nice dedication
This album was released in both stereo and mono in early 1968(this album's label Warner Bros. phased out mono that year). However,in 1968 and '69,the WB LP label read Warner Bros. Seven Arts Records atop. Instead of a shield with WB inside it,the logo was a single W inside a square(the "seven arts" was dropped and the shield reappeared with the WB after 1969). All the routines are great. The best ones are THE APPLE and CONFLICT. THE APPLE appeared on the 1969 compilation THE BEST OF BILL COSBY and CONFLICT appeared on the compilation's sequel MORE OF THE BEST OF BILL COSBY,released in '70. Interestingly,THE APPLE,reappeared on MOTBOBC,although it shouldn't have. THE APPLE is one of Cosby's few Adam & Eve routines that many of his religious fans loved. Another is from his 1986 Geffen album,THOSE OF YOU WITH OR WITHOUT CHILDREN YOU'LL UNDERSTAND,which never was released on CD although CD's were around and increased in popularity that year. CONFLICT tells about indecision,of course. Side Two of the defunct LP bears only the title track which runs for approximately 25 minutes. Interestingly,on Cosby's NBC Emmy-winning sitcom The Cosby Show,Cliff Huxtable's(Cosby) father's name is Russell. Cliff's mother's name is Anna, just like Cosby's real-life mother.
