Audio CD Description

Tom and Dick Smothers hit show-biz pay dirt by exploring the lighter side of brotherly competition in their musical comedy act. Combining substantial folk-singing skills with barbed comic repartee, the Smothers Brothers endeared themselves to "hip" crowds and mainstream audiences alike. That feat was a considerable accomplishment in the '60s, when the recordings that comprise this generous sampler were made. The tracks include such memorable numbers as "Pretoria," "Tom Dooley," "The Saga of John Henry," "Cabbage," "I Talk to the Trees," and, of course, "Mom Always Liked You Best."

Comments From Our Customers

Hilarious and musically superior

If you'd like more than one good laugh and some great music at the same time, this CD fits the bill. Their creative genius shines through and I found many of the songs that I was looking for in this collection.

Sibling Revelry

The name of this great album is, in fact, Sibling Revelry, not rivalry. This album is a great introduction to the Smothers Brothers and does not require a knowledge of folk music or much of anything else, really, to enjoy. Fairly clean and squeaky clean by today's standards.

Great comedy. Give us more.

This CD includes some of the classic Smothers Brothers "songs." What's sad is that no one is releasing more of their great collaborations. Their comedy relies on so many elements lacking in today's "comedy" which tries to get laughs by being crude and lewd. Yes, the Brothers sometimes were a little risque, but most of those jokes went over children's heads and there was always plenty for everyone of all ages to find funny. Get this CD and encourage whatever powers control these things to release their other albums on CD.
