Feeling the Loneliness
It has been said many times that when you listen to Sinatra you feel that he is singing just for you. He had that quality. This album is beautifully melancholic. Sinatra sings of loneliness and you really feel something here. I think you feel the loneliness in Sinatra's voice and it is something that he is sharing with you. You feel he has experienced loneliness and he now gives that felt emotion over to you perhaps to feel some void or emptiness you have or have had in your life. He shares this with you to let you know that you are not alone. He lets you know of the heartbreaking moments found in life and helps you reflect with his genuine and sincere delivery of these songs and their lyrics. This is one of Sinatra's most endearing albums to me. I have found that I must listen to it from time to time.
Sinatra Only at His Best
One of Sinatra's very best albums, it ranks up there with In the Wee Small Hours. A concept album that explores that dark edges of his artistic gifts. Those who just think Ol' Blue Eyes was into big brassy sounds will be in for a big surprise.
Here's To The Losers!
Love. When you feel it it is as if you are on top of the world. When a relationship ends, as the lyrics to "Once I Loved" explain, love is the saddest thing when it goes away. That is basically what "Only the Lonely" is about.
