Just shopping around...
I just had to comment that it is somewhat comforting to know that I am among so many who seem to have a problem sleeping. It is 2:33 AM as I write this where I live and I haven't been to sleep yet. But I think I found the solution. Brainwave entrainment and Jeffery Thompson has the right stuff sold here at Amazon. I purchased his Delta Sleep System about a year ago, and I did not like one of the tapes, but I sware to God the other one put me right out. I then purchased the Alpha Relaxation System (this one I love) and just a few days ago I purchased his Theta Wave System (I really like this one too), its effectiveness blew me away.
What I had discovered before buying these cds, was that my brain had become attuned to the noises around me, particularly the low level humming of my computer, which elevated my brainwave activity. After a lot of reading I learned that the only way to counteract that was to use something that would slow down my brainwave activity and that's what Thompson's tapes do. I do wish he would change the sounds on his Delta Sleep System as I know there are better sleep inducing sounds that could be used, but the one tape I listen to does work and in fact I am going to listen to it in just a few minutes. I have several sound scape cds but I have not been able to sleep to them for long periods. After awhile the Ocean waves start to annoy me and I'm wide awake. The continous rolling ocean sounds are not realistic of ocean patterns. The sounds should begin to drift off as the day grows dark and the tide goes out (unless there is a storm), at least that's the way it has been whenever I've been to the beach. At night the ocean seems to be calmer and quieter and you don't hear birds, maybe a little wind.
But if you are really looking for real relaxation I'd check out Jeffery Thompson's Systems.
Alot of the reviews I've read on the different cds and dvds have been really helpful so I thought I would just share this info with you guys. Thanks.
SO RELAXING...
this has to be one of the best water sounds cds ive bought yet. sure there are bits where it obvious that the sound is fading from one stream to another, but i thought it was done very well and found it still very relaxing. this is one of my favorite cds and gets played a lot (except when its cold or im busting to go to the toilet).
Helpful noise
This is a 60 minute long recording of the sound of rushing water, which we are told is that of mountain streams.
Several types of gurgling, babbling and splashing sounds are heard and the speed changes also. Sometimes the water falls heavily with a rumbling sound, sometimes it lights more gracefully on the rocks, producing a more pleasant sound.
Birdcalls are frequent and not particularly discreet but they are not really annoying. After all, birds do sing in the vicinity of mountain streams, so this is a perfectly natural occurrence on a cd of this type.
The quality of the recording is rather poor: the artists seem to have made several abrupt adjustments to the loudness and likewise the transition between the different streams is not too subtle.
For the price and considering the prosaic use of such "music" I think this is a good buy. I often use it at night and I find it more soporific than the ocean cds, which have to much energy in them to be really soothing.
