| Audio CD Description This anthology of children-related tracks originates from the globally conscious Putamayo Records catalog. Artists from Africa (Senegal's Touré Kunda, Congo's Ricardo Lemvo), Europe (France's Manu Chao), the Caribbean (Jamaica's Cedella Marley Booker), North America (Buckwheat Zydeco and Eric Bibb from the U.S.; Canada's Teresa Doyle), South America (Brazil's Nazaré Pereira), and Australia (Trevor Adamson) offer tracks, and while the styles and moods vary, the album gels excellently. Even if the multicontinent angle strikes you as too catholic, it bears reiterating that this is a "playground" session, a collection that begins with a Senegalese in-line dance and continues through "Mardi Gras Mambo," a bongo-playing French monkey, and much more. And while the songs are playful, there's nothing in the way of tossed-off music. It's all first-rate, with the artists at the top of their games. |

LOVE this for my baby girl! We got this as a gift and I had no idea how wonderful the Putumayo CDs are! This is so much better than the typical children's music out there!
Great CD! My 16 month old daughter LOVES this CD as do her parents! We put it on for music time in the afternoon and she grabs a drum stick and starts wailing on her drum or gets her shaker or jingle bell. It's lively and feeling... great world music! And fun to dance to! I'm buying it as a gift for two of her little boy friends ;0)
Get up and dance! I have high expectations for Putumayo albums, so when I first listened to this one, I was a bit disappointed; I am so tired of hearing "Three Little Birds", and although I loved singing "Waltzing Matilda" as a kid, this version drags a bit. However, once I got used to skipping these two songs, I fell in love with the rest of the album. Now, my daughter and I immediately start bouncing in happiness at the first notes of "Fatuyo"; you just can't help dancing to the infectious songs! |
