Amazing...
This is the first cd I had heard from Goldfrapp and I am in awe... This is one of the top 3 cds I've heard in my life, along with Vespertine by Bjork and Nude Tempo One by Miguel Migs.
Not For The Faint Ears...
...but if you love real music that takes risks, then you will enjoy Felt Mountain. The music on this cd is quite surreal, spacey, and seems to define eras. Lyrically, the songs are complex and requires deep listening to understand what Alison is singing about. Speaking of Alison, her crystalline vocals is the best thing on here. She displays sex but sadness at the same time. You really sense that this woman feels and believes everything she is singing about. This cd is now consider a "classic" even though it did not sell. Radio, especially in the US, will never play this type of work. But if you have an open mind and a good ear for music, this cd is for you.
Best Goldfrapp album -timeless piece
I discovered Goldfrapp through a compilation of music that Spanish director Pedro Almodovar published as the music that inspired him to write his scripts ("Viva La Tristeza"). That album carried the track "Paper Bag" by Goldfrapp. I was captured by her voice (a blend between Emiliana Torrini and BJork, at times) and sensuality, and her sound that seems to not quite belong to any particular period, but rather float in a timeless ether that makes her music fit just about any place or situation.
