Oh, Man!

Her silky, soulful voice, her guitar playing, the catchy melodies and lyrics, the arrangements - this CD has it all! India.Arie is an incredibly musically gifted spirit. My review cannot give the just praise this muscial genious deserves so I urge the reader to purchase this CD now. This CD is a must in anyone's music library.

This is a tremendous step for music

Her music is unique, mellow and smooth. Her songs sound like something heard in upscale coffeehouses catering to educated business folk. Her first single, the highly acclaimed "Video," is the epitome of radio candy without being the fluff that happened to be popular in early 2001 when it was released (Britney Spears and the boy bands instantly may come to mind). India Arie is her name and she's about as soulful and introspective as anyone can be. Her music reflects everyday situations and real life. Sure, not all of this CD soars as much as the aforementioned "Video," "Brown Skin" and "Promises" do, and that's sad because it's doubtful anything else other than that instant first single received airplay; but this talented singer-songwriter's debut Acoustic Soul is still brilliant, soothing as a first sip of coffee and as delightful as taking that first swallow and feeling the warmth down your esophagus.

Nice CD - very mellow

I enjoyed the album as a whole. I like some of the songs a lot more than others, but that is par for the course with most CDs.
