Wonderfully beautiful music
This is beautiful music. But you should be able to listen to it as it's meant to be listened to. Unfortunately, I work in a small cubicle area and share an office with hip-hop, country, and christian music fans. They are great people and we respect each other's spaces by playing our personal music preferences so as not to disturb each other. I live less than 3 miles from where I work, so I don't get to listen much in the car either. I would love to take a long road trip and play the CD's in my car. In the meantime, I play them at home and find myself recalling the movie scenes in which the music played.
Very Repetitive Score
The score goes well when you are watching the movie but on it's own it has basically one theme repeated over and over. It's OK but not worthy of an Academy Award in my opinion. Harry Potter should have won instead. When you consider Howard Shore has won more Oscars (3) than Elmer Bernstein and Jerry Goldsmith put together you wonder whats going on.
Exciting music!
Howard Shore has composed a great soundtrack for Fellowship of the Ring. Every piece has great emotion, and the music is chronological. The voices are amazingly done, and at least as well done as in the Star Wars music done by John Williams. There are two solo pieces at the end that are extraordinary. If you have enjoyed LOTR, then you owe it partially to the music and you will enjoy this.
