| Audio CD Description It's an enchanted world that Múm inhabit. Conceived in a remote Icelandic lighthouse, Finally We Are No One is an electronica album that conjures up hazy, half-remembered memories of childhood, both magical and eerie. The obvious comparisons are with Boards of Canada and Múm's compatriot, Björk. But as with their superb 2000 debut, Yesterday Was Dramatic, Today Is OK, Múm make a music that's far too original to be easily compartmentalized. So analog keyboards hum alongside muted digital glitches, and "proper" instruments--accordions, cellos, melodicas--flutter in and out of the mix. The overall effect is of a modern kind of folk music. It's gentle, almost-fey stuff, but the quartet (including twin sisters who appeared on the cover of Belle & Sebastian's Fold Your Hands Child, You Walk Like a Peasant) never slips into anything like polite ambience. Instead, the 11 pieces are like extracts from a particularly vivid dream journal, especially when the Valtýsdóttir sisters sing in their peculiar gurgling, infantilized way in the epically unfurling lullaby, "The Land Between Solar Systems." This is an album that leaves you longing for shady childhood experiences you never knew you'd even had. --John Mulvey |

if yr in the mood for something whimsical... I first heard of Mum thru a friend of mine, and he told me that it was like a combination of Low and Bjork. He also said that this is what Bjork's "Vespertine" should have been. Needless to say, he was right. Not that "Vespertine" was bad or anything. But this has the same type of feel to it with all of the electronic clicks and clacks. Listening to this also made me think a little bit of Aphex Twin and Boards of Canada which are really good comparisons if you ask me. Plus, the childlike vocals make the album very dreamy. Very enjoyable indeed for a rainy day, stargazing, daydreaming, after-party music at 4 am when it's finally time to relax. Go buy this album. It's truly worth it.
..... This is a genre of music I have never experienced before, I decided to check it out because Id heard it mentioned by anticon artists. Im mainly into indie-hip hop and spoken word horror core. bacause I like depressive music that speaks to me...anything from sage francis, themselves and alias to slipknot, pennywise and glassjaw like im used to, I found this hard to get into. The first time I listened to it was when i was really tired after a late night out. Being tired and feeling not [up to par] about yourself is probably the best time to listen to this music as you can drift away in the dreamland that it creates. This album is good for when you want to relax as I dont have any other relaxation music apart from maybe buck65, It works ok when im in a certan mood or have nothing to dramatic on my mind wich is hardly ever, but I usually want something darker than this, Its a bit too nice. There are a lot of interesting and well put together sounds and the vocals can sometimes sound slightly erie which is cool, But when I want something to fuel my hatred for others and everything in my life , or I want to jump around and smash things up it doesnt really work. I guess this review was pointless and Im an electronic music fan and i dont know what im going on about.
not bad, but no boards of canada ok, so this cd is pretty good. but it doesn't hold a candle to anything by Boards of Canada. i actually found it quite boring. there are a couple good tracks. but this cd is not in my rotation. Music has the right to children is. |
