Should be a guitar star
Those who are critical of this gem on the blues rock scene, saying he plays too fast, or something like that, must not have heard Stevie Ray or seen Mr. Vaughn play. Bonamassa's critics probably don't like Kenny Wayne Sheppard. Joe Bonamassa has it all to be the next blues rock superstar. Blues Deluxe showcases his vioce and each of his guitar stylings, including slide and acoustic. This is a superb blues album that was recorded so well you'd think the band is in your listening room. Also, check out his concert DVD.
Just OK!.
I liked "Had To Cry Today" a lot better, I just seem to like his orignals better then Covers, although it's not bad, by any means.
Very good - depends on your blues 'taste'
The guitar work is excellent on this disc but to call it 'blues' can be a stretch at times. Much of the playing is very fast & a bit complicated - sometines that loses blues fans who want it 'bluesy', not 'rapid-fire.' When he slows down, he's excellent (i.e., Long Distance Blues), but that's rare. I'm new to hearing this guitarist - I'm always looking for new styles and approaches and didn't hear much that's different on this disc....he's great, don't get me wrong, but he's not 'the best' as some reviewers state (who obviously never saw/heard Jim Thackery!!). I also was not 'fascinated' or 'carried away' by this music and I have been a huge blues fan for many of my 3 decades of listening to it and seeing live shows. It may be the vocals -they're good, sometimes just OK, but not 'fantastic.' I do look forward to seeing/hearing him live in April '06. I wish he would add a sax player or harmonica, remove the keyboards, and use a vocalist.....I still recommend buying it - but I doubt it will 'blow you away.'
