| Audio CD Description When George Strait's "She'll Leave You With a Smile" moved to the top of the country charts in early 2003, the handsome Lone Star crooner bested Conway Twitty for the most No. 1 singles by a solo artist. This collection of 50 chart-toppers, spanning 22 years, showcases the Cadillac of country singers at his best, blending traditional and contemporary stylings, but never straying too far from the core of his Texas barroom sound. "Fool Hearted Memory," from 1982, proves that Strait had his uncluttered production and straightforward vocal approach down from the start, no matter how many producers guided him to his peak. Through the years, the path to superstardom dictated that he trade the crisp Western swing of "Right or Wrong" and "Ace in the Hole" for squishy, mid-tempo crowd pleasers like "Check Yes or No" and "Write This Down." But he redeemed himself with such poignant heartbreakers as "So Much Like My Dad" and "…Smile." This retrospective's one new track, "I Hate Everything," about a man in a bar who's besotted more from pain than whiskey, doesn't match up with the singer's best material, but it's still got that irresistible Strait hook: average-guy sincerity wrapped in a down-to-earth heart. |

good but doesnt do George justice. This compilation of George Strait hits is good. It covers many of his number ones. However several of the songs are 'chopped' for a lack of better words. I am a HUGE Strait fan. And i own all of his CDs so i thought this would be the perfect one to put in my car. It is good but several of the songs are missing key lyrics. Come on..its ok to fade a song out a few moments early but to cut out major parts of the vocals is to much. This CD set doesn NOT do George justice. However if you dont mind if a few things are missing in some of the songs its a good CD. I do keep it in my car. And i still sing it...there are a few songs that remain timeless on it.
A Decent Intro to George Strait Here's a two CD set that attempts to cover the amazing career of George Strait. Personally, I dont think it's possible, and despite their best intentions, MCA Nashville was not entirely successful with this venture. All of the songs included are indeed signature george Strait; BUT, as others have pointed out, many of the songs have been edited/shortened. I consider it a slap in the face not only to the great George Strait and his songwrtiers, but more importantly, to his fans. With that said, the sound quality and layout of the discs are great; and the recordings are originals (although, often editied for length). If I were a true George Strait Fan, I'd go with the more complete Box Set. However, this is an affordable way to get a significant number of his hits on a 2 CD Set.
nothin better than this mans voice Got this CD for myself and have listen to it over and over again was worth every cent . I usually don't buy CD's online but so far no problems and don't expect any . |
