Unique songs
I made my way to Sufjan Stevens by way of some Amazon lists. This CD, I must say has some of the most unique songs I've heard in quite a while. Theres just something unusual about this album, something that catches your ear, and never lets it wander. The music is very stripped down, with usually no more than a banjo, an acoustic guitar, drums, and occasionally a few other instruments here and there. I really love most of the songs on this album. I think this album is one of my favorite purchases of this year.
Don't be turned off by the "Christian" label
I'm ardently atheist, but this is an incredible album. Maybe there's something to be said for religion if you're a musician -- keeps you focused on playing what you feel, and not necessarily what you think other people will like. That, at least, is what it sems to have done for Stevens. Seven Swans is more sparse, heartfelt, and harmonically complex than his other albums.
Absolutly Incredible
Sufjan Stevens could calm even Chuck Norris down with the sound of his voice. Folk will never die, and Sufjan will always be the blood flowing through it's heart.
