Play this CD, drive down the coast, forget about everything.
This CD is the epitome of chill.
Of course at first listen it sounds a lot like Jack Johnson, possibly because the two are from similar surfer backgrounds. But after listening to the CD a few rounds, you'll realize that Donavon is more laid back than Jack, if that distinction is even possible. Although Jack touches on topics such as the environment and pollution, Donavon aims more to provide listeners with a sense of peace and harmony.
If you are looking for some innovative, technical and complicated music, this is definitely not for you. But if you are looking for relaxing and upbeat music to listen to while driving down PCH or after a long day at the beach, this is the way to go. The CD just conjures up images of the ocean and waves.

Good vibes
I disagree with the "Jack Johnson clone" reviews of this album. This has a similar vibe, and a very nice one at that. However, the style of Donovan's music is different. It reminds of some of the songs I used to listen to on the radio in my mom's car in the '70's. Anytime I need music to put me in a better mood I pop in this cd. Donovan's got an infectious sound and a confident style, which is reassuring, and wonderfully laid back.
Love it.
Contrived, deliberate, and just tries too hard.........
You dont really need to listen to this album to know what to expect. You have a retro-seventies album cover and a wanna-be throwback. I admire Donavon as a surfer, but just because you surf doesnt mean you can be just as creative musically.
Most of these tracks have one single common denominator, they are contrived, deliberate and boring. Musically, they have been done before and you can name a band from the 60's or 70's that influenced that song. Why not do a Scott Walker song cover? That may break up the boredom on this album. It may be mellow- but it has no soul. The music sounds forced and the lyrics dont flow well. I think being star struck is what has given him great reviews. Keep surfing Donavon and tell your sponsors it just a side gig. Look for this one in your favorite used CD section.
