Audio CD Description

Though it might not be fair to say that Toby Keith has mellowed, he has definitely matured. Rather than taking political potshots, he exchanges bully-boy bluster for a tone of wry bemusement on "Big Blue Note" and "She Left Me," tempering middle-aged pride with a confession that the years have taken their toll on "As Good as I Once Was." After flexing his muscles with the album-opening title track, which sets Keith's musical autobiography to the trademark lope of Waylon Jennings, he showcases the subtler side of his vocal artistry on "She Ain't Hooked on Me No More"--a duet with Merle Haggard--and "Knock Yourself Out," while turning almost tender on "Your Smile" and "Where You Gonna Go." For those who miss the old Toby, there's "Just the Guy to Do It," which proceeds from one of the cheesiest pickup lines ever ("Do blondes really have more fun/Or are they just easier to spot in the dark?") into promises to punch out an errant boyfriend. Yet even this song has more of a Caribbean lilt than the macho swagger of Keith's younger days.

Toby you are so great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Quality album

Puzzling! The very prolific Toby Keith has released a new album quite different from his previous ones."Honky Tonk U" sets the tone to 12 rather similar songs. Traditional Toby Keith. You must hear it to believe it. As usual he shares most of his compositions with Scottty Emerick, his old buddy, sings with a guest, the sublime Merle Haggard, a winning duet "She Ain't Hooked on Me no More" and crowns it with two first-rate fellows, Dean Dillon and Chuck Cannon. A record you listen to with pleasure, relishing this many-sided artist, each side showing talent. Songs like "Big Blue Note" or "As Good As I Once Was" will no doubt be two main hits from an album that will surely top the US Charts. Tobey Keith will sing anything, he adapts to his moods, and ours is very good, Thanks Mister Keith.

Are you people deaf?

These people must listen with corn stuffed in their ears. Honky Tonk U is a great album. I've listened to it over and over and i think it's terrific. The songs are beautiful, lyrically and melodically. And Toby's voice is raw and sexy. I'm a new country music listener so i don't profess to know how to critique country music, but I do know what i like and don't like. I recommend this CD highly!! Sorry folks. (oh, and by the way, I have a college education, waaaaay past 3rd grade honey)
