Audio CD Description

As the title of Gary Allan's sixth album suggests, there's no change of pace or lightening up on his darkest collection to date (and first since his wife's suicide). Love goes bad on the bittersweet "Best I Ever Had," gets brutal on "I Just Got Back from Hell," and turns positively lethal on "He Can't Quit Her." The closest Allan comes to an affirmative sentiment is the schmaltzy "Life Ain't Always Beautiful," though an extended guitar solo brings the rock balladry of "Putting My Misery on Display" to a soul-stirring finale. "Nickajack Cave" evokes the mythic redemption of Johnny Cash, but there's no redemption for Allan here. He sounds like he's trying so hard to convey life's hard lessons that the comparative understatement of "Puttin' Memories Away" comes as a relief.

Comments From Our Customers

This is perhaps one of the greatest country CDs of all time.

I'll admit I really don't like much of today's country music but Gary Allan has always been the exception. His music is always gritty and soulful and the lyrics aren't always polished for "tender" radio play. I've always been a fan of Gary Allan and this one is by far my favorite. I read that this CD was therapy for Gary after the loss of his wife and personally, this CD has been my therapy as well. It's helped me come to grips with the loss of a special little girl who thought of me as her uncle. At my lowest, the song "Life Ain't Always Beautiful" has been the only thing that kept my afloat. It will become a classic hopefully. Tremendous work from the most talented man in the young country circles.

True Emotions

This album is definitely one of Gary Allan's best CD's. He definitely conveyed his true emotions on Tough All Over. It's completely honest and the vocals are striking. "Putting My Misery on Display" and "Life Ain't Always Beautiful" totally capture the feeling the album and they are my favorites for sure. My main point is that this album is both powerful and deep and at the same time beautifully sung and written. All around good music!!

Gary Allan Just Keeps Getting Better

Besides being the hottest guy on planet Earth, Gary Allan's star glows brighter and hotter with each successive release. If you liked "See If I Care," you'll love "Tough All Over." My favorite track (and a cool video with his usual motif of water, boats, and a gorgeous indifferent woman) is "Best I Ever Had."
