This is it!!
Dangermouse comes thru with the right beats for the masked man!! Every track is more than exceptional. Mf doom deos his thiing. This is like a dream match up. There is a lot of variety in the tracks. Something to keep you from getting bored. Which is usually what happens when one producer does an album. Mf doom sounds terrific on this. Always entertaining. There are many quotables as well. My favorite track has to be "old school" with Talib kweli. This is my favorite Doom release. Waay better than that Venemous Villain release.
Sofa King Dope
Doom pairs with the dj that brought us the Grey album and they deliver an awesome release. I haven't heard other stuff from Danger Mouse, but I will seek it out now. On the other hand, this is on par with Madvillain, Venomous Villain, Operation Doomsday and MM Food.
Best Hip-Hop In Years
I've listened to Hip-Hop for a long time now. I got hooked back in the day with Souls of Mischeif "93' til infinity" and Channel Live "Station Identification." But, around 1999 I stopped listening as much because rap was becoming mainstream pop music. But about a year ago I picked up the Punk O'Rama collab from Epitaph. I heard Danger Doom on disk 2 and was really impressed with the production skills. I took a chance and picked it up. Good choice. MF Doom is the greatest mc of all time! DM is one of the top 4 producers of all time (RZA, Stoupe and DJ Premier are the others). The whole disk is nice, but there are several standout tracks. Doom shows the ability to rhyme to grimey east coast hardcore tracks like Crosshairs and to faster tracks like Old School. This is some real Hip-Hop, and it has introduced me to a whole indie rap scene that I thought had died in about 97. The beats range from orchestral (sofa king, crosshairs) to synth (bada bing) and everything in between. Anyone looking for some sick beats with a dope MC bringing them to life, than this is a must own. To anyone looking for lots of hooks and R&B choruses, look somewhere else.
