Hardly worth an Oscar...
While Santaolalla's score is not bad, it is not exceptional either. Not what I would call Oscar-worthy, and more importantly, not comparable to the other nominated scores, most notably those for Pride and Prejudice and Memoirs of A Geisha. (In the case of Pride and Prejudice, the piano-like the guitar for Brokeback-takes the forefront, but the composer for that film crafted a score that was true to the historical period, but also instrumentally modern. With Geisha, John Williams successfully reinvented himself and delivered an effective foreign-sounding score without it sounding clich? or affected. These two scores were both deserving of an Oscar.)
Astonishing!
The film was impeccable, and so was the soundtrack. When I saw the film, the amazing music score really got my attention. It was so remarkable & so moving that you couldn't even overlook, and it really captured the essence & emotion of the film flawlessly. If you liked the film, then I'm certain that you will also like the soundtrack because the music is one of the best things about the film. I've cried so many times after watching the beautiful Brokeback Mountain, and I couldn't help it but wept after listening to this inspiring soundtrack. It was so beautiful, heartbreaking and haunting that I was moved & touched so profoundly & deeply.
