Learn Coldplay, Learn!
What a blast of fresh natural energy and variety, that rips and roars from the very beginning. "Whatever People say I am That's what I am not " by the Arctic Monkeys is an album with good songs and music from a bunch of guys who are just out of their teens. The singing is so natural, young and spontaneous. You sometimes get a feel that they are a mix of the band "Oasis" (for vocals) and the band "Offspring" when it comes to music but then, they are not. The Arctic Monkeys are original in their own way. The musicianship is top-notch with exciting guitar riffs, meaningful solo leads, lovely bass lines and good drumming. I watched some live footage of the band and the drummer is a must-watch/hear. Believe me his drum kit has only one tom! So much from such a modest set-up.
At least 4 Excellent Songs from Guys who clearly aren't Yet Polished
I bought this album because a guy whose opinion I respect musically after he introduced me to the work of "The Band" who in my humble opinion are at the pinnacle of rock bands told me this is the first new music he has heard in a long while worth taking a listen to and on my first listen I wasn't impressed, but that had a lot to do with the equalization settings that were programmed into my stereo at the time. I zeroed my EQ and the mix in the recording came to life and some fairly interesting lyrics became intelligible, at which point I gave it a more thorough listen and got the following impression.
Openly disregarding their "it"-ness, sort of
"Anticipation has a habit to set you up for disappointment," or so goes the smarting first line from Arctic Monkeys' debut LP. Before the Sheffield upstarts had been around long enough to get slagged as a second-rate Jam rip, the British music press had already placed a crown in their cradle, making them fresh bait for industry bats and baby eaters.
