Am I the only one ...
...that hears Alan Parsons music throughout most of this CD? Most Pink Floyd fans know Alan Parsons, if only through the terrific engineering work that he did in DSOTM. David Gilmour also collaborated with Alan Parsons on the first cut of Parsons' latest effort, A VALID PATH. This cut, entitled RETURN TO TRUNGUSKA is one of my favorites by either performer, and made me wonder why it took them so long to get together. It was pure magic and the absolute highlight of A VALID PATH.
Do not let 4 stars fool you...
...this is a fantastic album, Gilmour-style! And fans of early Pink Floyd-albums such as "Meddle" have got absolutely no reason anymore to doubt David Gilmours' influence on the legendary band. I read some reviewers call it something like "Division Bell 2", personally I can't really say it reminds me that much of "The Division Bell" -as mentioned it sounds far more early Floydish to my ears, or in two words described; Haunting and melancholic.
Two stars for devout Floyd fans, 3 stars for everyone else.
If you've heard Gilmour's work in the context of Pink Floyd's albums -- and I mean *all* their albums -- than you've already heard just about every lick David throws out on this new solo album.
