| Audio CD Description One of the most innovative voices in contemporary American music, guitarist Joe Satriani celebrates two decades as a recording artist by releasing yet another consistently strong and refreshing platter of soulful goodness. Like his former student and sometime sparring partner Steve Vai, Satriani shows his virtuosity rests not only in his command over his instrument but also in his command of composition. "It's So Good," "One Robot's Dream," and the title cut are constructed with a master's sense of harmony, melody, and rhythm. Satch still shreds without compromise, as he demonstrates on "Bedshift Riders," but he also reminds us that he can compose gentle works of soul-stirring elegance as evidenced by "Ten Words," "A Love Eternal," and "A Cool New Way." Solid Effort - 4.5 Stars Ever have a really cold beer on an especially hot day and think "that is the best beer I have had in a long time?" Today I experienced that same reaction to this release. Having bought it a few weeks ago I didn't have the opportunity to pop it in the player until today. After about a month of less then stellar weather up pops a beautiful spring day, I am cruising up the coast, and this CD seems like it was created for me as a soundtrack just for today. Everything looked brighter, smelled sweeter, and the air seemed fresher. Light and breezy with just the right amount of bite, this release reflects all that is great about a Joe Satriani release: taste, talent, creativity. While there are no real standouts like those found on other sessions, this one offers up a very consistent and welcome helping of great guitar based music. Nothing heavy and no lame vocals to mess with the feel and flow. Just another great release from master Satch.
Better All The Time Being a long time fan of Joe, he never ceases to amaze me with his extraordinary passion for making music. I love every cd Joe has released, but he is on a certifiable roll here with Strange Beautiful Music, Is There Love In Space? and now Super Colossal. And seeing him live is not of this earth, as last week's show at the Tower proved yet again. If anyone deserves some radio airtime it's Joe, but look what he's been able to accomplish with absolutely none...amazing...thank God for the Ipod...Maybe it's better this way....
Super Colossal Nice solid effort by Joe. I enjoyed this CD much more than the previous one. There's some real emotion and soulful stuff here. I just got home from the House of Blues not a 20 min ago and I must say these songs sounded incredible live. The title track was amazing. Way to go Joe. |
