it's really not that great
It is a good album, i'll give you that, but the reviews were so extraordinary, i was expecting something out of this world. It's good, a couple of songs are very good, but the rest are kind of boring... sorry, i know i'm disagreeing with almost everybody, but that's my opinion.
Supernatural
Goldfrapp is an awesome band and I respect them for taking risks and doing different things with their music. However, I must be honest when I say this cd is not as a great as Felt Mountain, but it is better than Black Cherry. On this album, the music can only be described as "out-of-space glam". Songs like 'Ooh La La' has the appeal of a purring dance party, while 'Ride A White Horse' pumps funk to keep the party going. The haunting 'Let It Take You' slows the music down, while 'Koko' relives Kate Bush from the 80s. My only issue with this cd is its not as cutting edge as Felt Mountain. However, because Goldfrapp still beats to their own drum, they probably won't find an audience here in America. Only a few music lovers who wants something different, like myself, will take a risk on Goldfrapp.
Supernature
I have been a big fan of Goldfrapp when I discovered them back in 2000 on a now defunct music program on cable tv. The duo's first cd "Felt Mountain" was a sensuous mix of trip hop and ambient music. There was definite Shirley Bassey comparisons in Alison Goldfrapp's lush vocals. A couple of years later, the band followed up with the electro-clash sounding "Black Cherry" which was a drastic departure from the sensual, lush sounds of "Felt Mountain". Nevertheless "Black Cherry" was an excellent follow up. The songs were unquestionably catchy. 3-4 years later, Goldfrapp is back with the excellent "Supernature".
