Surprisingly great CD, DualDisc extras are awesome
Ian Gillan is someone I've known for a long time having sung on numerous Deep Purple albums, as well as his connection with Black Sabbath. However, I've never gotten any of his solo or "Gillan" albums. No particular reason, it's not like I had a dislike for them, I just never got any.
Heavy Hitters Ball
I was not sure to think of this CD until I heard the first track and did not stop until it was done. With some of the heaviest hitters in rock this CD is just simply awesome, no one is trying to show up anyone else it is just great playing and singing start to finish. No wonder Gillan and Deep Purple for that matter have been successful for so long, with friends like this who would ever want to stop.
Good Selection of Songs...
I enjoyed the updated Smoke on the Water & No Laughing in Heaven. The DVD was worth the price alone--seeing Satriani with hair!! Speed King & When a Blind Man Cries are reworked nicely. I noticed along with a few others that Trashed was better on Born Again... that's up to each individual, BUT, I thought it was better as well back when he originally did it. I wish he would have added Zero the Hero & something from Gillan & Glover like Clouds & Rain. The DVD extras are a real bonus. All those heavy-hitters involved. I wonder if he called Blackmore... probably not, not a bad thing.
