Maybe wait a little longer...
My May 8 2006 order from Amazon still contained the incorrect mixes. So if you're waiting to order this so you don't have to bother with calling the (800) to exchange them, you might want to wait a little longer.
A Stereo Spectacular
OK. Here is how I think you can see if you have the original or the corrected versions of the two cd's. Look at the pressing number on the back side of the cd (near center). The corrected cd's, I believe, have "RE-2" near the end of the number. The original's say "RE-1". However, I have not been able to reach Capitol to corroborate this.
I Don't Want To Spoil The Party...
But this boxed set is a waste of time and money except for the most die-hard fans of the original Capitol releases. Sir George Martin and his son Giles have been busy the last two years remastering tracks for the forthcoming Cirque du Soleil Beatles tribute "Love". In conjunction with the show, Apple plans to release a soundtrack album that will include previously unheard recordings by the band. Meanwhile, Neil Aspinall just disclosed last month that Apple is currently in the process of remastering the entire Beatles catalog. Both projects are being overseen by Paul, Ringo, and the estates of John and George. At long last Apple Corps is on the verge of releasing the Holy Grail of Beatles recordings - the entire catalog remastered using the original EMI and Apple masters from Abbey Road!!! And would you rather have anyone else but the 5th Beatle George Martin and the surviving band members overseeing the project? Simply put, why bother with this box set when we've just found out the imminent release of a vastly superior product...
