Let's not be so hard on these guys
There was a lot of anticipation and the expectations were high before this album was released. I mean after you make albums like Aenima and Lateralus which are absolute masterpieces you can be certain that everything that you make will be compared to them. I mean I doubt that Tool will ever create anything as brilliant as those two albums ever again which is a shame because everything else will be pretty much inferior to them. 10,000 Days is a great album and it has some memorable songs like Rosetta Stoned, Jambi and the title track, 10.00 Days but unfortanetly people expect Tool to produce material as good as their previous two and sad to say, that's not going to happen. Having said that, this is a good album from one of the best rock bands since Floyd and Zep and definately worth your time.
Finally
If you have any interest in Tool, go ahead n pick this one up. There's a lot of nay-sayers to go with this album. Why? Well Tool tends to draw a large crowd of atheistic and agnostic type minds because of Maynard's infamous anti-religious lyrics. These guys, in my opinion, don't appreciate the entirety of Tool. They worship Maynard, prolly would even give him a reach around if they could. He is a great lyricist, but in this album theres very little references to an opinion of religion, FINALLY, it's time to move on! What frosts peoples balls is the fact that many people know that, and have a hard time connecting with what Maynard is trying to say in many a song. Well, lyrics are merely a tribute to music, but a lot of Tool fans beleive in the inverse relationship. This is a beautifully composed album. The tone and detail of which could only be compared to that of Pink Floyd's David Gilmour. And all of us that really appreciate the MUSIC don't even need to comment the octopus-like drumming of Danny Carey. A+ in my opinion, a quartet that has truly grown into an overwhelming enigma when creating art. Get some BAD ASS speakers, quiet everything else in the world. Close your eyes, and listen. I'll see you when you come back to earth!!
Unmistakably TOOL
So far my favorite song is track 10. It delivers everything Tool stands for for me. Hypnotic layering ultimately reaching a plateau of some of the most hair raising rock. It's a technically sound cd (almost said album). The mix is incredible. It really does look like they were messing in Eddie Munster's basement as the trippy cover art indicates. They came out with something unparalleled by any other group in this genre.
