Greatest hits as a singer *and* as a songwriter
Have succeeded as both a singer and a songwriter, Vassar has taken a novel approach to his first greatest hits volume, fleshing out his own chart successes and album tracks with new recordings of songs that he hit with other artists. He even finds room to salt the compilation with three brand new compositions. The result is a substantial fifteen track collection that succinctly essays Vassar's multidimensional musical career in a single disc.
Work of Art
Finally the public gets to hear what Phil is all about. This album allows him to showcase a portion of his career that many people didn't know existed. Phil recorded songs on this album that he wrote but others have made famous. The public gets to hear what Phil intended "Bye Bye" and "Little Red Rodeo" to sound like. His performance of "My Next Thirty Years" is simply awesome. In addition to hearing the hits he wrote but never recorded, we get to revisit some of Phil's own commercial successes like "Six pack Summer" and "I'll take that as a Yes."
Simply Pleasurable
Phil is no doubt one of the best songwriters in country music, one of the best performers, and probably the most talented musician out there today. He writes, sings, plays piano - and excels at all three. This album is a great showcase for his talents, and for some really good music. Of course there aren't any bad songs on here - Phil's never released "filler" material in any of his albums. It's great he got the chance to record his songs that made other people stars, and he's got three new awesome songs on here to make this album a complete work of art.
